Diné Skate Peyton Alex

Ephraim Anderson (also known as Zefren-m) is a Native American multi-disciplinary artist based out of the southwestern US. Belonging to the Navajo Nation, Anderson has spent the last 4 decades continuing the traditions taught to them by their grandparents.

Anderson attended University of New Mexico, earned a certificate in Navajo weaving from Navajo Cultural Arts program, and has participated in the Heard Museum guild Indian Market and fair (Heard Indian Market), the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts (SWAIA). They are currently pursuing a bachelor’s in fine arts with an emphasis on Navajo Silversmithing at Diné College.

As a member of Nanbé Ówîngeh, one of the 6 Tewa speaking tribes in New Mexico, I find a lot of inspiration in my people and our ways. Existing as a modern Native woman means finding the balance between the two worlds we walk in. Kaat’sáy is a love letter to my ancestors, written on the pages of modern fashion and jewelry, because our lands, our people, our art, should be celebrated every day.

Artist Kisikahwskew "Kylei" Big Bow (Fine Bow) hails from the Chippewa Cree and Laguna Pueblo tribes of Montana and New Mexico. A true artist at heart, she intertwines the threads of traditional indigenous art with a contemporary twist, infusing her creations with elements of edgy, punk, and gothic influences. Her artistic journey began at the age of 8, guided by the skilled hands of her parents who passed down to her the intricate knowledge of brain tanned hides, beadwork, parfleche, painting, and the lost art of northern regional traditional tattoos. With each brushstroke and bead meticulously placed, she immerses herself in the depths of her cultural roots, weaving stories of the past into the hides of her art.

Yá'át'ééh! My name is Melissa A. Carroll. My maternal clan is (White People), and my paternal clan is (Bitter Water). I am a Diné artist known for my contemporary-style paintings and drawings, focusing on illustration and expressionism. Art has always been a huge coping skill I used growing up to help me get through difficult times. I’ve always enjoyed creating mixed-media paintings and drawings since my youth.

Bio: Rhiannon is a textile artist & jewelry designer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her weaving practice and area of focus is rooted in Saori, Japanese Zen Weaving which she has been engaged in since 2013. Rhiannon’s original creative practice in beadwork & fine jewelry provided with her a focused, quiet discipline to launch into Fine Art & Wearable Art Textiles. Her Mexican, Tohono O’odham & Spanish ancestry act as the portal that informs her weaving practice while embracing the cultural arts of these lineages in a modern way. Her textiles are collected globally and many clients commission bespoke works to imbue both their wardrobes & homes. She is happiest weaving textiles that reflect the unique landscapes she travels too, often drawn to unusual geological forms. She engages in natural dyeing, utilizes sustainable fibers as often as possible & believes that handwoven textiles thoughtfully made, are objects of art to bring back the old ways of slower living.

Carmen is a multi-disciplinary artist working in printmaking, painting, and clay in addition to being a traditional tribal artist in the fields of weaving and beadwork. Their work explores the relationships between living on and off of the reservation and how these relations influence my way of life. She tends to use iconography and popular culture as a tool to delve deeper into the untold indigenous history of America. Her art is a reflection of living in contemporary society as a Yakama-Comanche woman.

Dawn Tesha Smith is a Navajo mixed-media artist from Low Mountain, AZ. Her clan are Kinyaa’aanii (Towering House), Hooganłani (Many Hogans), Tsinaajinii (Black Streak Wood), Tachiinii (Red Running Into Water). She specializes in painting but branches out to other mediums, such as woodworking or crafts. She is earning her BFA in Traditional Painting at Diné College this year. She gains inspiration from the colors of nature on the reservation, her family, her cultural teachings, and inspiration from other well-known artists.

My name is Tierra Begay. I am Tó áhani (Near the Water Clan), born for Tsin Sikaadnii (Clamp Tree Clan). My maternal grandfather is Tó Dích’ii’nii (Bitter Water Clan), and my paternal grandfather is Táchii’nii (Red Running into the Water Clan). I am originally from Tó Bééhwiisgání (Pinedale, NM), and I now reside in Albuquerque, NM. As a self-taught artist, I specialize in hand-drawn and painted art that reflect the stories, teachings, and culture of the Navajo people passed down to me by my grandparents. My art is rooted in symbolism, meaning, and purpose, and I often dedicate my work to those who have inspired, supported, and raised me. When I first began my art journey, my goal was to create pieces that spread love and happiness, much like the way my grandmother raised me. Today, I hope to continue sharing that love, along with advocacy, teachings, and wisdom, through my art—connecting with my people and other Indigenous communities. 

Gilbert J. White Jr. lives and works in Albuquerque, NM. He studied Business and Entrepreneurship at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA). One of his most profound experiences was joining Meow Wolf’s Artistic Development and Production team as an intern for the summer of 2021. Gilbert is most notable for his work on community murals including a collaborative mural at the University of Rochester, a solo STEAM lab mural at Volcano Vista High school, a collaborative mural in Downtown Albuquerque for the Paint for Peace Community Revitalization Project, a solo mural for the NM Love Paint Contest, and a mural for Meow Wolf’s ‘House of Eternal Return’ in Santa Fe, NM. Gilbert is currently a tattoo artist working at Good Medicine Tattoo in Downtown Albuquerque. Gilbert is an emerging artist, hard-working scholar, and passionate entrepreneur pursuing a professional career in the artworld.
