Vintage Items
Our vintage garments and textiles vary in condition and age and all have been pre loved and pre worn.
We perform a thorough, in-house inspection and fully clean and restore the items as needed - all by hand. While we are steadfast and diligent in our process, there are often stains or dull marks, threadbare areas that are part of the aging process, or otherwise that we either cannot control or we cannot fix without damaging the item. We work hard to give multiple images of each garment in natural light, so you can see the garment in all areas before purchasing.
Please email us at ahehee@4kinship.com with any questions on the item before purchase and we will be happy to answer your questions.
Upcycled Vintage
We are extrahoardinary re-imaginers. Foraging the globe for vintage treasures and fresh finds that then become part of our experimental work in up- cycling. The garments and textiles we use for upcycling vary in condition and age and all have been well loved and cared for.
We perform a thorough, in-house inspection and fully clean and restore the items as needed - all by hand before we re-imagine them using one or more techniques including embroidery, stitching, dyeing, embellishing, etc.
Because these items are lovingly handcrafted one at a time, there will be variations in color, feel, look, etc. from each piece to piece and sometimes within the same item and are not defects. This variations and patina add to the beauty of each garment.
We work in and with communities from around the world, purchasing directly from them, whether it’s textiles, garments, accessories or home goods.
Well Worn Vintage Garments
This is an old soul garment, and has some signs of ageing. We love a well aged wine, and we also love the allure of garments with some intriguing history to them. We understand these garments are not for everyone. Our Well worn items are garments that have visible wear and tear in the cloth, that we chose not to repair as we feel that the age-ing elevates the garment’s story. They may also have a subtle patina, color distortion, phantom fade lines, & natural blemishes.
Artisanal & Original Works
We often lists works of art, garments, textiles and jewelry as part of our collections. Some of these items are produced by 4KINSHIP. Others are sourced from tribal communities around the world as well as from members of the Navajo Tribe right here in southwestern USA.
Every exquisite piece is handcrafted and reflects dozens to hundreds of hours of meticulous work. Each heirloom comes directly from the artists hands and is priced accordingly.
Artisanal and/or hand craft goods, accessories, clothing, etc. are often purchased directly from the artist in a variety of ways - with the express purpose of giving the most back to the artist as possible. When we list the product as “100% back”, the item is listed at the price established by and/or with the maker and the maker receives 100% of the profit of the item less transaction fees and taxes. We often commission exclusive pieces for our brand made by the artist. In this, we pay a wholesale price as provided by the maker for the work and goods provided.
Small Batch Collections
When we create a unique, new product, we sometimes use blanks, either new or deadstock. Deadstock is leftover production from larger brands, and it’s a priority for us to use that as much as possible. If we’re unable to find suitable goods there, we will buy in small lots in limited sizes which helps keep our footprint to a bare minimum.
Many of our new items also come from indigenous makers and artisans who have been honoring the land for time immemorial. Their small batch creations, wether textiles or products, not only support the people and families that make them but they also keep rich traditions alive.
Sizing
We deal mostly in vintage and overstock items that can be restored and/or upcycled. Due to the age of these items, most of them are smaller in size which refelcts sizing of the period the garment was made. We look for a variety of different materials and types of products, traditionally sized for both women and men to help offset some of this challenge. When doing small batch, we are as inclusive as possible and offer unisex sizing which often goest up to a 3xl size. Many of our jewelry items are also adjustable in nature.

Sustainability
4KINSHIP is an artwear brand - rescuing items and reimagining them for expression, making them relevant for today.
We believe that less is more.
We also believe in the sustainability of makers, small batch productions, supporting local indigenous communities and economies. We support small mom & pop shops from jewelry makers, potters, weavers, sewers, dyers and more. We’re committed to sustainability and we work to improving on our footprint daily.
How do we do that?
Vintage. Vintage garments and items are always inspected and washed, often repaired and reimagined. Sometimes we spend over 10 hours on a single item - which invariably gives it a longer life, keeping it from a landfill in the short term and hopefully preventing a fast fashion item from entering the cycle in the long term.
Small Batch & New. When we create a unique, new product, we do use blanks for teeshirts and sweatsuits. First, we try to source deadstock, which means leftover production from larger brands, and save it from a landfill. If we’re unable to find suitable goods there, we will buy in small lots in limited sizes which helps keep our footprint to a bare minimum.
Artisan. Many of our new items come from indigenous makers and artisans who have been honoring the land for time immemorial. Their small batch creations not only support the people and families that make them but they also keep rich traditions alive.
Small Batch. We like to help keep Small Business in business. Small business artisans, printers, sewers and hand-dye specialists are an integral part of our creative community and supporting them is something that sustains our communities. We work with these family run shops in order to print, hand-dye, sew, bead and embroider garments of all kinds, whether they are lovingly repaired, reimagined or newly made.
Packaging. We work to keep our packaging to a minimum and as a business that uses profits to fund give back programs, we have relied heavily on packaging pre-made by the postal or shipping services we use to keep the business expense low. We’re not OK with this as a long term solution and we are actively working to change this to a practice that is better for the environment. Keep a look out for better things ahead.
